Strapping
Strapping can provide a range of benefits such as decreased pain, better posture and improved athletic performance.
What is Strapping?
Strapping involves placing strips of special tape (kinesiology tape) onto your body in specific directions to help improve your mobility and support your joints, muscles, and tendons. Kinesiology tape serves different functions when applied. The goals of strapping are to improve circulation, support muscles, foster healing, and help prevent injury or further injury.
Common conditions treated
At our practice, we use taping as part of a treatment programme for many conditions and injuries, including:
- Shoulder injuries
- Ankle sprains
- Knee pain
- Heel pain (plantar fasciitis)
- Tendonitis, e.g. tennis elbow
- Muscle strains, e.g. hamstrings, groin, quadriceps
The benefits of strapping
- Decreased pain
- Decreased inflammation and increased circulation
- Improved posture and muscle support
- Improved athletic performance
- Helps boost the body’s natural healing system
What to expect
At your appointment, we will apply the tape directly over an injured area, including its perimeter. In most cases, the muscles are held in a stretched position while the tape is being applied. Unless the goal is to provide structural support, the tape itself does not require additional stretching as it’s applied. The elasticity of the tape creates a gentle lifting action of the skin, and this activates both circulatory and neurological healing mechanisms.
